Behold! Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter in Tim Burton-directed upcoming Disney’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND in 3D. Carrot Top called, he wants his hair back. I know Burton’s movies are weird but this one takes the cake. He really takes the word visionary director seriously because these first look images from USA TODAY are out of this world. Producer Richard Zanuck said that Depp underwent a transformation with the addition of enlarged eyes tinted yellow and also employed an indescribable accent, what a great actor! The ones below are shots of Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. She has a digitally enhanced swelled head to play the ruler with the famous scream, “Off with their heads!”. Anne Hathaway seen here as the White Queen overthrown by her sister, she’s beautiful but she doesn’t walk, she floats. Click on the images to enlarge

The article said that the famous tale has been Burton-ized. The live action is currently being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D. Everything you thought you knew about ALICE IN WONDERLAND is about to get visually surreal but Producer Zanuck thinks kids can handle it.
The story is somewhat of a sequel because it finds our character Alice, 17, attending a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit, voiced by Michael Sheen (Froxt/Nixon) into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years ago but she doesn’t have any recollection about it. The rabbit believes he has found the right Alice.

A few new concept arts also have been released featuring egg-shaped Tweedledee and Tweedledum, created through motion-capture technology, played by Matt Lucas. They greet Alice and take her to meet the Mad Hatter.
The roses in Wonderland can hold conversations and some of the plants remind you of the topiaries that Edward Scissorhand would make.
