I got only a few things left before I fully settle into my new apartment, my roommates and have figured out an affordable but awesome way for Internet access so that Rama’s SCREEN will still be up and running, at your service.
Meanwhile, according to Variety, one of the books that’s been considered a timeless classic, MOBY DICK will be re-imagined by Universal Pictures and the director for the job is Timur Bekmambetov… (don’t ask me to pronounce his last name). He helmed a movie you might remember called Wanted.
If you’re a screenwriter, you’d wanna wish you could be Adam Cooper and Bill Collage right now because they’ve been hired by the studio to pen the screenplay and they’re getting paid high six figures. Holy smokes!
If there was a writer strike right now, I’m sure they won’t stop writing with that amount of paycheck.
Cooper said their version is going to be way different.
“Our vision isn’t your grandfather’s ‘Moby Dick,’ ” Cooper said. “This is an opportunity to take a timeless classic and capitalize on the advances in visual effects to tell what at its core is an action-adventure revenge story.”
The great Whale will be destroying other ships long before he encounters Captain Ahab’s Pequod. Ahab will be depicted more as a charismatic leader than a brooding obsessive and on and on… the next thing know, it won’t be Moby Dick anymore, it’d be like 300 in the middle of the sea.
The way Hollywood adapts books never ceases to make me chuckle.
