Sometimes, a movie project would come along that makes me say ‘really, seriously? Are you kidding? Is that even worth watching?’ According to Variety, the director of National Treasure movies and the upcoming THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, Jon Turtletaub is set to direct the big screen story of the birth and rise of the non-governmental organization for the protection and conservation of the environment that’s been around for four decades, GREENPEACE…
Aurelius Films is financing the project and has bought the screen rights to 2 books about GREENPEACE.
Greenpeace: How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists, and Visionaries Changed the World and Warriors of the Rainbow: A Chronicle of the Greenpeace Movement written by the co-founders of the organization, Rex Weyler and Bob Hunter respectively. In fact, this movie will mostly focus on those two individuals and how they got the movement started in 1971. How they managed to inspire a group of pacifists, ecologists, musicians, teachers, sailors, and scientists to disrupt nuclear bomb tests, whaling ships and infant harp seal hunters all over the world.
Right now, this movie is described as an adventure movie and they’re trying to get Aaron Sorkin to write the screenplay
Look, I know Hollywood is gung ho about saving earth, thanks to Leo DiCaprio and the gang. I’m all for that, Plus I have full trust in Sorkin’s writing abilities, that man is a master. But a couple of years ago, Stuart Townsend made a movie about the activist and protesters of Battle In Seattle but it received lukewarm reviews and not many people got to watch it, much less give a damn about it. How is it making an adventurous GREENPEACE movie going to be any different? The story needs to have another underlining theme, a conflict more solid than just straight up depicting how they came to be and a couple of examples of their endeavors and that’s it.
