I find this one to be a bit odd because it contradicts the previous info about Quentin Tarantino might be adding a scene to INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. According to The Wrap, The Weinstein Company is in financial disaster due to some debts that are as huge as the Weinstein brothers themselves.
This is what was said as part of the solution..
the company needs a big hit, and soon. Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ premiered to mixed reviews at the Cannes Festival. Weinstein and coproducer Universal are both trying to convince Tarantino to cut it by 40 minutes. (It’s now 2’40”, and considered too long a sit, especially for American audiences.)
Once again, this is odd because Tarantino wanted to add some more and he is well within his contract to do so. The contract tops it at 2 hours and 48 minutes.
But now he’s asked to cut even more? I just find that hard to believe.
Do you even think strategy would work?
Having a shorter BASTERDS would result in more audience which would result in more money to help TWC’s broke-ass?
That said, a couple of the early reviews did mention how it was too long and had so much talking. But I’m sure American audiences, the fans, who are familiar with Tarantino movies would expect those things to happen in..well, Tarantino movies.
I’m still waiting to hear what my fellow blogger Sebastian of Tarantino Archives has to say about this, unless he’s occupied with something else.
I personally would like to see Tarantino’s complete uncut version of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, if it’s any way shorter than what the folks at Cannes Festival got to see.. then I would feel robbed.
