Universal Can't Finance TINTIN

TinTin

Damn Economy! It’s hurting everybody, including movies, man! It’s not the great depression, but these are tough times to be living in America. It has taken yet another victim, According to Los Angeles Times, Universal backed out of financing Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson‘s proposed trilogy TINTIN and all because the folks at Universal panicked when they saw that the budget to make the whole thing would cost them at least $130 Million. Yikes! Can you blame them?!

So the two great directors, and I’m talking about two guys powerful and influential in the movie business who used to plan something and make that plan happen in no time, but now they are scrambling to find another financial partner. How sad,… it has come to that.

The report goes on to say that today’s tough economic climate is responsible for the film’s demise at Universal. Their decision to back away from the film had nothing to do with the film’s content or the two men making the film. It all had to do with the huge price tag attached to it. When that much money is involved, a project like Tintin becomes a high-risk for the studio.

Okay, so no more, how much do you need Spielberg and Jackson? Let me take a look at my wallet, oh damn! I don’t even have a 5.

This whole situation blows, no doubt about it, but I can see it from a different perspectives.
I grew up reading TINTINĀ  but.. but today’s young generation… they’re not familiar with the characters, they could care less.
So what I’m trying to say is… in a way, maybe this is a good thing.. because investing $130 Million without knowing if it will earn the same or more in return would not be a good thing to do.
Maybe those two should just collaborate on a movie like KING KONG 2… have the big ape brought back to life, destroying the city of Paris, swatting airplanes planes while hanging on to the top of Eiffel Tower.

TINTIN is based on a famous Belgian comic series about a young reporter named Tintin and his dog companion Snowy and he goes all around the world and meet… interesting character such as Captain Haddock and the bumbling detectives Thompson and Thompson, who provide the comic relief. Tintin’s adventures involve elements of mystery, political thriller, fantasy, science fiction and slapstick humor.
