Previously, it was reported that Warner Bros. and DC did not know yet what do with Superman, hire Bryan Singer again or not, do a sequel or do a total reboot. They’re scratching their heads like a kid who doesn’t know how to put the pieces of the puzzle in place.
They’ve finally come to their senses and Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing SUPERMAN. Other websites are assuming that the direction taken will be just like Marve’s The Incredible Hulk, which had nothing to do with Ang Lee’s Hulk movie.
Isn’t that what I’ve been saying all this time?!
Well, it’s about bloody time, WB! Here are some excerpts from the article..
Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes — known as “Batman vs. Superman” — after the $215 million “Superman Returns,” which had disappointing box-office returns, didn’t please executives. “‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009,” he adds. “But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.”
Good!
No more Superman‘s kid, no more staring into Lois Lane’s eyes for too long, no more comparing the hero with Jesus, no more lack of action.
Superman Returns was so lame, the late great Christopher Reeve was rollin’ in his grave.
The only thing that concerns me about the announcement is that they’re still thinking about bringing every DC comic Hero to the big screen have each of them have his/her own movie.
Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something about a stand alone live action movie of THE FLASH or GREEN LANTERN that’s just..cheesy!
BATMAN is awesome, SUPERMAN is awesome, but I can’t say the same yet for the rest of the DC characters.
Maybe they could prove me wrong someday.
Although… I’d still wanna see WONDER WOMAN movie just cause I’m hoping it’d be rated R and I’m curious to see who gets to play the sexy hero. But That’s just my raging hormone talkin’…
With “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League” stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. “Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own,” Mr. Robinov says.
Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.
The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.
How do you make a ‘dark’ Superman? Given that I’m not a hardcore loyal fan of the Man of Steel.
Speaking of which, are they still going to keep the title MAN OF STEEL for this reboot then?
The Dark Knight has definitely set a high standard, now every other comic-book based movies will work twice as hard to figure out ways to top Nolan’s Materpiece.
Will Brandon Routh be included in this new plan or are they going to do a complete recast?
Do you agree with WB’s decision to reboot Superman or do you think it should be a sequel to Superman Returns?
