When a director that has no experience at all is bringing his life story, the result can be anything, realy. There's nothing that gives me confidence in the movie, but there's also nothing that does the opposite. However, if I think of "A Guide to Recognizing your Saints", it was the same situation. Dito Montiel brought his own life to the big screen with his debute movie. He made some beginner-mistakes, but all in all that was a good movie with excelent performances by LaBeouf and Palminteri. Maybe Hawke and Ruffalo can do the same for this one. Although, I agree with your comment on Ruffalo.
