The question of whether or not director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) is going to take on ROBOCOP the reboot is about as flip-flop as wondering whether or not Stephen Chow was going to play Kato in THE GREEN HORNET Movie. Chow recently said Ciao to that project so I wouldn’t be surprised if Aronofsky would do the same to ROBOCOP.
An article at Riskybizblog says that Fox Searchlight is closing in on working with Aronofsky on the thriller BLACK SWAN with Natalie Portman attached to star as a New York ballerina, about to enter a competitive showdown but she may or may not be imagining her rival.Trippy!
So with that project taking place, the article suggests MGM might delay ROBOCOP reboot production until 2010 for the movie to open in 2011.
But MGM still got RED DAWN Reboot and POLTERGEIST Reboot to think about and as far as Aronofsky goes,.. well, let’s do a quick recap to reminds us how flip-flop this situation has been..
Last year it was announced that ROBOCOP remake was going to happen with Aronofsky to direct, and then an info hit the web stating that it might be a sequel, but then it got changed to prequel again plus it would be a hardcore rated R. Aronofsky however never wanted to say much about the whole thing and recently during a talk show in Europe when asked by an audience member about ROBOCOP the reboot, he answered by saying he didn’t know what they’re talking about.
Darren Aronofsky is a brilliant artistic director, no doubt. But when it comes to ROBOCOP, I think the job would be better directed by someone like Lexi Alexander or Eli Roth, where violence knows no bounds.
