Man, today is the day of MTV sharing out rumors like crazy… there was Michael Caine who supposedly revealed who might play the villains in the next Batman movie.
Now actor Derek Luke, while promoting his new movie MIRACLE AT St. ANNA, said to MTV about who might play Captain America in the movie…
“I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America,’” said Luke, adding that the intriguing casting rumor “just shows you how times have changed.”
I don’t know about this one,
I mean yes, Nick Fury turned from white to… Samuel L. Jackson, which is pretty awesome.
But Will Smith as Captain America would be a little too awkward, besides, he’s already played another superhero named Hancock.
Previously the rumor for who might play Captain America was centered on actor Matthew McConaughey… who has the physique but I think it would sound way too hilarious if the superhero starts talking the Matthew’s trademark saying “Alright, alright, alright….”

So.. Will Smith as Captain America… Yay or Nay?
Whoa… Whoa! Whoa! Hold your horses Hollywood! I am not racist, but I have always been against superhero movies that don’t follow it’s source.
Captain America was never black, but Nick Fury (according to the Ultimate Marvel Universe) was portrayed as Samuel Jackson in the comics, in that universe, so it makes sense he is in the new Marvel Movies. But making Will Smith (who is great by the way) Captain America will ruin the image of who Captain America is!
Most comic movies that became blockbusters had kept true to the comics, but those that didn’t (”cough” Daredevil) were flops! They should keep with the continuity of the comics because sadly… The color and look of the person does matter when it comes to comic movies.
Can you imagine a Black Guy playing spiderman? Or an Asian hulk? Or a Mexican Ironman? Not to be racist, but the truth is people have an image of how these superheroes should be. And if they want to make millions like what they are doing, is should be, nay, on Will Smith.
So let me get this straight, Dex
the only condition for this whole thing to be acceptable is if Will Smith portrays Captain America in the Ultimate Marvel Universe first.
or for some reason.. Marvel decides to use Will Smith’s image for Captain America’s graphic novel.. and then it’d be okay to have him play the shielded Superhero on the big screen?
Why is it easier for fans to accept Sam Jackson as the ‘New’ Nick Fury than it is to embrace the idea that Will Smith might have what it takes to play Capt. America?
I agree with you however, I just don’t see Will playing the role.
I don’t think he’ll have difficulty with the physical demands but he’s just not Captain America.
You mentioned Daredevil,.. yes it was a stupid movie, anything that’s starring Ben Affleck is bound to be okay, lame or just plain stupid..
But I thought Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kingpin was allright and he’s black.
