It was a graphic novel that became one of the most sensational Korean movies ever and last year Spielberg and Will Smith have expressed the desire to make their own version but strictly based on the graphic novel instead of remaking the cult hit by Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook.
But Prince of Bel Air talked to MTV recently and implied that there hasn’t been any much development besides talking for now..
“It’s the thing that Steven was attracted to,”
“We’re working from the comic and we haven’t done anything other than talk about it. So we’ll see what happens, but he’s not going to do anything that would be less than stunning.”
Spielberg is going to be pretty busy handling TINTIN project and though I don’t doubt his ability to make an entertaining movie or as Will puts it “nothing less than stunning”, Spielberg’s proven his skills for the past 40 years and counting… but I dunno, man.. I know they said it will be based on the graphic novel but whether they like it or not, people are still going to compare it to the Korean movie instead, which by the way is still fresh in our minds,… a man can’t easily forget a movie so twisted and awesome.
“25-year old Shinichi Gotō was kidnapped one fateful night and locked up in a private jail for unknown reasons. After ten years of solitary confinement, with only a television set for company, he was suddenly released. The story follows his quest to hunt down the identities of his captors and uncover the reason behind his imprisonment.”
