Real quick now, James Cameron‘s 3D epic AVATAR has reached $1.64 Billion worldwide and passed up $500 Million mark in just 32 days which is a new record. Last weekend, for some odd reason, Golden Globes awarded AVATAR with Best Picture Drama even after the fact that Golden Globes didn’t want to recognize the screenplay. But all this success has made a lot of filmmakers out there thinking about 3D. Speaking to Access Hollywood recently about AVATAR, George Lucas was open to the idea of STAR WARS movies getting a 3D treatment but it won’t happen anytime soon…
“I liked it. I make movies like that, [so], I can appreciate what [James Cameron] went through to do it,”
”[I’m] happy it’s so successful, and worked very well in 3-D,”
“Haven’t been a big fan of 3-D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3-D.”
“We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it in 3-D,”
“But, [the] technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.”
I’m a big fan of the old Star Wars movies, not the lame prequels… granted I’m not a die hard fan who’d dress up and stand in line everytime there’s a freakin’ Star Wars eventapalooza in town but don’t you think Star Wars is.. kind of like.. yesterday’s news?
All Lucas got are Star Wars and Indiana Jones which he exec-produce, so obviously he’s going to milk them for all they’ve got through all kinds of ways but how long can they keep this up?
Don’t you think we’ve reached the point that whenever we hear any of Lucas’ Star Wars plans nowadays, we’d go “o geez.. not this again!”
